Gilad Amiel

Gilad Amiel MD FAACE

Gilad E. Amiel is currently the chairman of the Department of Urology, RAMBAM Healthcare Campus in Haifa, Israel. He is a graduate of the Ben-Gurion University Medical School in Beer-Sheva, Israel. He completed his residency in urology between 1997-2003 at Bnai-Zion Medical Center and Technicon Institute of Technology in Haifa. Upon completion of his urologic residency in 2003, he pursued a combined clinical and research fellowship in urologic oncology and minimally invasive surgery at the Scott Department of Urology, Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas (2003-2006) where he established a tissue engineering laboratory that focused on translational research in genitourinary reconstruction. Gilad’s clinical practice consists of urologic oncology and genitourinary reconstruction. His research focuses on genitourinary reconstruction utilizing biological matrices and adipose stem cells, as well as treatment for bladder cancer, prostate cancer, and cancer education. Gilad received several teaching and education awards. He is a past president of the American Association for Cancer Education (AACE) and is currently on the Advisory Board of the AACE. He joined the European Association for Cancer Education (EACE) executive council in 2015 and is currently the Secretary of EACE. Gilad is a member of the Executive Board of the Israeli Urology Association and the Israeli Society for Medical Education. He is a member of the American Urological Association (AUA) and several other organizations. Gilad is the associate editor of the Journal of Cancer Education and a reviewer for several urological, educational, and bioengineering journals. Gilad has authored numerous over 80 peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, and received thus far 19 grants.

Maria Bishop

Maria Bishop MD FACP

Maria Bishop is a Professor of Medicine at the University of Arizona with a joint appointment in Medicine and Neurosurgery. She is a medical oncologist and chair of the ethics committee at the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SAVAHCS). Maria is the Hematology/Oncology Section Program Director at SAVAHCS and is board certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology as well as Hospice and Palliative Care. Her clinical specialties include breast, neuro-oncology and end-of-life care. Maria earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and a medical degree from the University of Arizona, where she also completed her residency and fellowship programs. Maria is a Faculty Mentor for the Societies Program in the University of Arizona College of Medicine. She is a Fellow in the American Association for Cancer Education Academy and is a Fellow in the American College of Physicians. Maria received membership in the Veterans’ Affairs Honor Roll in recognition of care provided to veterans. Maria is currently the Editor in Chief of the Journal for Cancer Education.

Krista Dawdy

Krista Dawdy MRT(T) BSc MSc

Krista Dawdy is the Clinical Educator/Clinical Coordinator for radiation therapy at Odette Sunnybrook Cancer in Toronto. Krista is an Instructor Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto (UTDRO) and Adjunct Professor at the Michener Institute of Education. She is involved in both staff training and education including medical and allied health professionals, as well as students in the medical radiation sciences program. Krista is a member of the Teaching effectiveness Committee within the UTDRO. She has led many initiatives within the Odette cancer program and her main interest is in education and continuing professional development. Krista has authored and co-authored many peer review articles in oncology and has been the recipient of numerous grants and teaching awards. In 2022 she was awarded Excellence in Clinical Teaching
from the UofT.

Kathleen Heneghan

Kathleen Heneghan PhD MSN RN FAACE

Kathleen Heneghan is the Assistant Director of Surgical Patient Education at the American College of Surgeons. Her research focus is patient quality and safety and the development and evaluation of national programs focused on skill based training for surgical cancer patients/caregivers and professional education focused on best surgical prep. She collaborates with specialty organizations and government agencies in national program development and training standards and implemented the first simulation-based caregiver programs resulting in improved patient outcomes. Over 8 million in external funding has been secured for the surgical skills credentialed training programs. Kathleen’s PhD is in Pharmacology from Rush Graduate Medical College with a patent on a topical peripheral opioid pain control drug. She was a biological based research Fellow at University of Illinois PhD Nursing program and has a Master’s in Nursing from Loyola University. Prior to the ACS, she was an Associate Professor (Nursing) and Director of the Pediatric Critical Care Research Center at Rush University and Chair for distance learning education, Rush Graduate College.

Jamal Khadar

Jamal Khadar MD FAACE

Jamal Khadar is a Radiation Oncologist and Chairman of KHCC Academy for Training & Education. He studied medicine at Mahatma Gandhi memorial College, India followed by radiation oncology at All India Institute of Medical Sciences and Jordan Medical Council. Jamal has been involved in clinical practice as radiation oncologist and cancer education since 1998. He has successfully introduced & implemented advanced radiation oncology techniques at King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordan like total skin irradiation, Intensity Modulated radiotherapy, Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy and High Dose Brachytherapy. Jamal is the lead for Genito-urinary cancers multidisciplinary team, establishing clinical guidelines for GU, Lung & GI cancers. As part of the KHCC’s strategic committee, he has developed a 5 year plan for the cancer center including cancer care, cancer education, quality and national and international accreditation. Jamal has a keen interest in cancer education and is the founder of KHCC highly recognized Radiation Oncology Residency Program.

Jan Oosterwijk

Jan Oosterwijk MD PhD

Jan C. Oosterwijk, MD, PhD, clinical geneticist in University Medical Centre Goningen, the Netherlands.

Trained as a clinical geneticist, he wrote his PhD on prenatal diagnosis through the detection of fetal cells in maternal blood (1998).

Since then for over 25 years, he has been involved in counseling and research on familial/hereditary cancer, with a focus on hereditary breast/ovarian cancer. Current chair of the Groningen hereditary breast/ovarian Center of Expertise. He has a special interest in risk communication in oncogenetics and did a sabbatical with Gerd Gigerenzer (Berlin).

Dr Oosterwijk chaired the working party on Oncogenetics (Dutch Genetics Society) and the Dutch Collaboratively Research Group on hereditary breast ovarian cancer (Hebon).

Filipe Santos Silva

Filipe Santos Silva PhD

Filipe Santos Silva has a Ph.D. in Human Biology and a Master’s Degree in Oncobiology. He is an affiliate professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto and a guest researcher at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, University of Nebraska. He leads the IPATIMUP Public Awareness of Cancer Unit and is a member of the board of European Association for Cancer Education. He has a vast portfolio of projects in cancer education. Filipe’s current research focuses on the optimization of communication models between patients, health professionals and education programs of cancer centers.

Ewa Szumacher

Ewa Szumacher MD FRCP(C) Med CPC (HC) FAACE

Ewa Szumacher is a radiation oncologist at the Odette Sunnybrook Cancer in Toronto, and Full Professor, Department of Radiation Oncology, University of Toronto. She specializes in radiation treatment of patients with breast and Genito-urinary malignancies. Ewa completed her Masters in Higher Education at OISE/UT with sub-specialization in healthcare professionals’ education. Her educational research is focused on nneeds assessments of patients and healthcare providers in radiotherapy practice; enhancing patients and healthcare providers’ decisional preferences for radiotherapy treatment Geriatric Oncology and Continuing Professional Development. She is a Past President of American Association for Cancer Education and Co-Director of Continuing Professional Development within the Department of Radiation Oncology University of Toronto. She received several awards such as Sunnybrook Education Research Award, Pamela Catton Interprofessional Education Award within UTDRO, and Excellence in Interprofessional CPD Award University of Toronto, Department of Radiation Oncology. Ewa is a 2020-2021 recipient of the Colin Woolf Award for Long term Contributions to CPD University of Toronto. Ewa has published over 100 peer-reviewed publications and received many peer-reviewed grants in medical education.

Jakob de Vries

Jakob de Vries MD PhD

Jakob de Vries is Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, and has his clinical activities in the Breast Centres of the University Medical Centre Groningen and Treant Medical Centre in Hoogeveen, NL. He is Principal Educator in the Faculty of Medical Sciences in Groningen, NL. He studied Medicine in Groningen before becoming a Board Certified Breast-Oncologist. He had additional training in UCLA and completed two years of subspecialty training in Surgical Oncology in Groningen, UCLA and MSKCC. He was director of the Summer School Oncology for Medical Students and former President of the European Society for Cancer Education. He is member of the executive board EUSOMA and also is active in different national and international societies such as Dutch Society for Surgical Oncology and European Association for Cancer Education. He is participating in several clinical trials in the area of breast cancer. He is member of the editorial board of the Journal of Cancer Education, and author or co-author of more than 70 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters on Breast Oncology. His main interest is in breast cancer treatment and medical education.

David Wiljer

David Wiljer BA MA PhD FAACE

David Wiljer is the Executive Director of Education Technology and Innovation, University Health Network. He is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry, Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto and collaborating scientist at Centre for Addiction and Mental Health. David has led research and development projects that focus on putting knowledge into action by utilizing health information technologies and knowledge management approaches to promote lifelong learning and CPD. Through his research and scholarship, he also explores the impact of digital technologies to enhance patient partnerships. He is the author and co-author of many peer reviewed papers clustered around major themes of technology and innovation to promote information exchange, improve the patient experience and managing organizational change.
